100 face KWV sack

Published:  23 July, 2008

Some 104 people could be made redundant from South African producer KWV.

The company is considering a restructuring programme to improve profitability, competitiveness and effectiveness'.

KWV is still consulting with its 575 employees over the programme, so nothing has been finalised, but the process is due to be completed by the end of the month.

Last year, KWV announced a black economic empowerment (BEE) deal with the Phetogo consortium, which now holds 25% of KWV's shares, but a KWV spokesman stressed that this deal would not be affected. He added that the restructuring could affect employees at KWV's depots in Upington, Paarl, Worcester, and Robertston, as well as its head office in Paarl.
