PLB gets a Sicilian

Published:  23 July, 2008

Sicilian producer Firriato is to be reunited with Australian flying winemaker Kym Milne MW after PLB snapped up the agency from current UK importer - and Milne's former employer - Italvini (part of WaverleyTBS).

The move will also see PLB business development managers Peter Bisley and Alex Canneti work with the producer again - the pair had worked with Milne, who is now a consultant to PLB , on the Firriato account during the nineties.

Based in Trapani near Marsala, Firriato was started 20 years ago by husband and wife team Salvatore and Vinzia Di Gaetano. It owns 300ha of land, 200 of which are under vine, and also sources fruit throughout Sicily. The deal with PLB will see the two companies working on creating a range of wines below the 5 pricepoint, and then extending the brand into the 5 to 10 sector.

'Firriato is an excellent winery at all levels and a great addition to our portfolio,' said Bisley. 'We are looking forward to working with the company to develop a brand specifically for the UK,and to also help realise considerable potential for the volume side of the market.'
