Nine of Italy's finest wines at Radison Portman

Italian oenologist Riccardo Cotarella will present nine of Italy's finest wines in a tasting at Talavera Restaurant in the Radison Portman Hotel on Wednesday, 21 March at 11.30am. Open to press and wine buyers from the wholesale, retail and on-trade sectors, the tasting will feature a selection of Cotarella's most acclaimed wines including single-vineyard Orvietos and Tre Bicchieri-winning Merlot blends from Umbria and Lazio, a single-vineyard Barbera from Piedmont, a single-vineyard Aglianico from Campania, and a single-vineyard red blend from Sicily. Recently named "Winemaker of the Year" by Gambero Rosso magazine, and lauded by Robert Parker as one of "the most influential wine personalities of the last 20 years" and "Italy's answer to France's Michel Rolland", Cotarella and his wines have found international fame throughout the USA, Asia and Western Europe. The UK market remains one of the most difficult markets for Cotarella to crack. "I have selected these wines to present in London because I want to demonstrate the revolution in quality that has taken place in Italy, particularly in the central and southern regions, in the last ten years. I would like to see the UK market offer a broader and higher-quality range of the best that Italy has to offer." At the tasting Cotarella hopes to attract high-quality importers, or retail and restaurant outlets looking to buy direct, for those wines not yet represented in the UK, and gain additional press and buyers for wines imported by top companies such as Liberty Wines and Alivini. David Gleave MW of Liberty Wines said: "Cotarella is one of the greatest Italian winemakers, and this tasting will be a wonderful showcase of some of Italy's top wines."
