ITALIAN FISCAL POLICE INVESTIGATE FRESCOBALDI

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Guardia di Finanza, Italy's fiscal police, on the order of the Florence district attorney, have launched an investigation into the affairs of world-famous wine producers Marchesi Frescobaldi.

Police are paying special atttention to its Fattoria Castiglioni winery in Val di Pesa. At the same time, several cellars in other parts of Tuscany and Italy generally have come under scrutiny - 32 in all - with some 500,000 litres of wine being

sequestered by the authorities. The accusation involves alleged violation of regulations contained in the discipline

for certain wines concerning the provenance of grapes used in the production of wines, in terms of both varieties employed and zones of origin. Of course we source wines from outside,' commented Vittorio Frescobaldi, president of Marchesi de'

Frescobaldi. But only for bottling as Vino da Tavola or to be sold at our farms in bulk.'

Frescobaldi's lawyer, Nino d'Avirro, assured observers that we will demonstrate that the production of (these) wines was absolutely regular.'
