Bibendum PLB adds Coates & Seely to English wine roster

Published:  09 December, 2015

Hampshire-based producer of sparkling wine Coates & Seely is moving its distribution to Bibendum PLB Group in January.

The Coates & Seely Brut Reserve and Rosé will be available to the on-trade via Bibendum and to the off-trade through Walker & Wodehouse.

Coates & Seely is an Anglo-French collaboration. Jointly owned by financier Nicholas Coates & Christian Seely, director of AXA Millésimes, it has a French wine-making team, while its vineyards around Winchester are planted on chalk soils similar to that in the Champagne region.

Its wines have won numerous awards, including Best Value English Sparkling Wine and Best NV Blanc de Blancs at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.

It has been a good year for English wine producers at Bibendum PLB, with the group supplying the Wimbledon Tennis Championships with an English wine for the first time in the tournament's history, and British Airways listing one of its English wines for its first-class customers.

Coates said: "We are delighted to be teaming up with Bibendum PLB and are confident that their position as one of the market leaders in the UK will help move Coates & Seely to the next stage of its development and underpin its position as one of the leading, high-quality sparkling wine producers in the UK.

Andrew Shaw, buying director for Bibendum PLB said: "We are thrilled to be working with Coates & Seely. The quality of the wines is exceptional and they are competitively priced.

"Coates & Seely will be a perfect fit for our English wine portfolio and we are looking forward to hitting the ground running in the New Year."

Coates & Seely had previously moved UK distribution from Liberty Wines to Gonzales Byass in January 2015.
