Baron Philippe de Rothschild Wines (BPRW) has confirmed it is moving its UK distribution to John E Fells & Sons, bringing together three famous family-owned wine companies. The move to Fells, owned by The Symington Family Port Companies, with leading Spanish producer Miguel Torres a small shareholder, cements the relationship Symington and Torres already share with BPRW through the Primum Familiae Vini, a group of 12 family-owned and -managed wine producers. The UK wine market, one of the most fiercely competitive in the world, is now dominated by New World brands from large conglomerates. In the face of this competition, these illustrious Old World wine companies are pooling their formidable experience and pedigrees to ensure that they remain at the pinnacle of the industry,' said a statement from the group. Distribution of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines in the UK adds significantly to the strength of the Fells portfolio which, up to now, has had a large gap where Bordeaux ought to have been,' added Paul Symington. Fells now has a range of highly prestigious wines, second to none in the UK, all of which are family owned.'
