Gymkhana comes out top in the National Restaurant Awards

Premium London Indian restaurant, Gymkhana, has been voted the best restaurant in the UK in last night's National Restaurant Awards, run by Restaurant magazine, sister title to Harpers.co.uk.

Premium London Indian restaurant, Gymkhana, has been voted the best restaurant in the UK in last night's National Restaurant Awards, run by Restaurant magazine, sister title to Harpers.co.uk.

The awards, now in to their seventh year and sponsored by Estrella Damn, are based on the votes of industry experts and were held last night at the Hurlingham Club in London, the venue for last month's Harpers Awards.

The awards saw The Clove Club in Shoreditch rise three places to take the runners-up prize while the Ledbury slipped one place to third.

Last year's overall winner, the Hand & Flowers, came fourth in the overall list, but was named Gastro Pub of the Year for 2014.

Other highlights of the evening saw Restaurant Story climb an impressive 69 places to 25.

There were two individual awards for best drinks offers with Le Gavroche winning Wine List of the Year and Grain Store which won Cocktail List of the Year. James Lowe's Shoreditch restaurant, Lyle's won the One to Watch award. Liberty Wines sponsored the Service award which went to the Waterside Inn in Bray.

*  Best Restaurant in Scotland, sponsored by Speyside Glenlivet: Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, Gleneagles

*  Best Restaurant in Wales, sponsored by Speyside Glenlivet: The Walnut Tree, Abergavenny

*  Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland, sponsored by Speyside Glenlivet: Shu, Belfast

*  Gastropub of the Year, sponsored by Estrella Damm: The Hand & Flowers, Marlow

* Chefs' Chef of the Year, sponsored by Ritter Fresh: Ashley Palmer-Watts of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

* The Service Award, sponsored by Liberty Wines: The Waterside Inn, Bray

* Wine List of the Year, sponsored by Matthew Clark: Le Gavroche, London

* OpenTable Diners' Choice 'Fit for Foodies' Award: The Dairy, London

* Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Appletiser: Restaurant Story, London

* Cocktail List of the Year, sponsored by Mixxit: Grain Store, London

* One To Watch, sponsored by Lavazza: Lyle's, London

The final list of Top 100 restaurants of the year are compiled from votes of 150 members of the National Restaurant Awards Academy which is made up of restaurateurs, chefs, journalists and food critics across 12 regions of the country.

Members can vote for five restaurants in their region with two votes for restaurants outside their region.
