YOUNG LAUNCHES VINTELLECT

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Jack Hibberd

Clare Young, a former director of Cockburn & Campbell, has left the wine merchant after 17 years with the Young's Brewery-owned company to set up her own consultancy and training business. Named Vintellect, it aims to offer bespoke advice on every aspect of selling and storing wine in the on-trade. Loads of people offer a wine-list service, but nobody offers the full service that I can: back-bar display, wine preservation systems, serving wine, increasing rate of sale, promotions and training,' she said. Young added that training bar staff about wine is often overlooked by both independent owners and pub groups. They often say "my training is looked after by my wine merchant", which is all well and good, but sales reps often don't know about the specifics of selling wine in pubs and other on-trade outlets. It's not just about increasing product knowledge, but knowing how to bring customers into the category.' Young is offering tailor-made one-day seminars for up to 20 staff for 550.
