BURGESS TAKES SPANISH STEPS

Published:  23 July, 2008

Former Thresher Group trading director and Asda/Wal Mart buyer Russell Burgess is the latest retailer to cross over to the supply side, after taking up a position as export director of Spanish wine giant Gandia Wines. Burgess, who will be based in Spain, will be joined by new marketing manager Ana Prez, whose career includes stints at Unilever and Sara Lee. One of Burgess's and Prez's priorities will be to oversee the UK launch of Hoya de Cadenas, an oak-aged Tempranillo from Utiel-Requena. The company recently completed the construction of a new 3 million-litre winery in Utiel-Requena entirely devoted to the brand, which is already present in 50 countries worldwide. Gandia is changing - the appointments of Russell and Ana are a vital element in the development of our business,' said Gandia president Jose-Maria Gandia. They will bring the experience needed to accelerate our mission to produce the best-value portfolio of wines from Spain and deliver real value to our customers.'
