Published:  23 July, 2008

AVA highlighted

Wente vineyards has begun shipping wines labelled with the new San Francisco Bay AVA (American Viticultural Area). Effective from last March, the San Francisco Bay AVA encompasses 70 wineries and about 6,000 acres, which is under 1% of California's total grape acreage. The appellation is a sub-region of the Central Coast appellation and includes the Livermore Valley, Santa Clara Valley, San Ysidro and Pacheco Pass sub-appellations. The Wente wines to feature the appellation are the 1997 Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon; the 1999 Vineyard Chardonnay; the 1997 Charles Wetmore Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the 1998 Crane Ridge Reserve Merlot. Wente has new labels, foils and bottle shapes to highlight the new AVA.
