SKELTON BECOMES AN MW

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has welcomed three new members into its ranks - including writer and English wine advocate Stephen Skelton. The two other new MWs were Markus del Monego, co-owner of Cave & Co in Germany, and Colin Gent, head of communications with Europvin SA in Bordeaux. Of the 57 candidates who sat one or both of the examinations, seven have now passed both the theory and practical examinations (three at the first attempt) and will now be going on to prepare their dissertations. Two other candidates passed just the theory, and nine just the practical examination. The full results for 2003 will be announced in November. Skelton, who is currently working as a buyer for a wine merchant alongside other work, told Harpers he was very pleased' to have finally passed, eight years after he started the programme (with a three-year gap taken to pursue a degree). I suppose it can be seen as a confirmation of my knowledge,' he added, although it's certainly not a career move for me, as I am already 55.'
