London-based Berkmann Wine Cellars has added the high-profile Falesco estate to its Italian portfolio. Falesco is the personal estate of renowned winemaking consultant Riccardo Cotarella, dubbed Italy's answer to Michel Rolland' by Robert Parker. The Falesco wines available in the UK include 2002 Est!Est!!Est!!! (60% Trebbiano, 10% Roscetto and 30% Malvasia) and 1999 Ferentano (100% Roscetto with malolactic fermentation). In the US, the company has had great success with Vitiano (50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangiovese), which sold 120,000 cases last year and has been named No.1 best value Italian red' by Wine Spectator. Falesco's future plans include new production facilities and increased vineyard holdings, to 150ha.
