As many as 3 million UK consumers aren't happy with the white wine on offer in stores - paving the way for a Moscato explosion.
That's according to Bill Roberts, EMEA vice-president of Californian giant E&J Gallo.
Sales of the variety have rocketed in the US, up 73% in 2011, and Moscato became its third largest-selling white wine last year, eclipsing Sauvignon Blanc. Experts believe the trend could be replicated in the UK.
Mitchells & Butlers group wine director Joan Torrents admitted that although it's early days for the variety, its taste profile is good and "it ticks a lot of boxes".
The 1,600-strong group is planning to add two Moscatos to its portfolio: one to All Bar One and one to Sizzling Pubs as a trial.
