Christie's International Wine Department has announced the sale of what it describes as the finest single consignment of estate-sourced Chteau Latour ever to appear at auction'. To be offered throughout 2003 in three different sale locations - London (22 May), Los Angeles (31 October-1 November) and New York (20-21 November) - the collection features classic vintages from 1863-1996. All bottles are reported to be in immaculate condition'. The London sale features 190 lots of Chteau Latour, including the following outstanding older vintages: 1863, 1865, 1899, 1900, 1929, 1945, 1959, 1961 and 1966. Highlights among the younger vintages include 1982, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1996. Anthony Hanson MW, senior consultant, Christie's International Wine Department, said: This is an unprecedented event in the wine auction world. With our unparalleled sales network, we are able to offer these wines across all major wine auction centres, bringing our unrivalled expertise closer to potential buyers, whether they are based in Europe, the Americas or Asia.' Frdric Engerer, president of Chteau Latour, said: Chteau Latour has always wanted to keep a certain quantity of each vintage in its cellars, and we often feel like librarians with a collection of books that can be read only once. Realising that we very seldom open vintages from the 1950s and earlier, we have been considering a major international opening of our cellar "library" to Latour lovers around the world for some considerable time.' A masterclass hosted by Anthony Hanson MW, Michael Broadbent MW and Frdric Engerer will be held at Christie's, King Street, London at 6.30pm on 13 May. Wines to be tasted are: Les Forts de Latour 2000, 1996 and 1990, and Chteau Latour 1999, 1989, 1988, 1985 and 1982. Tickets, priced 85, are available from Magda Ramadan on tel: 020 7752 3101.
