'SUPER CHIANTI CLASSICO' PROJECT

Published:  23 July, 2008

Six major Chianti Classico producers, Barone Ricasoli, Castello di Ama, Castello di Fonterutoli, Fattoria La Massa, Fattoria Le Corti and Podere Il Palazzino, have joined forces to push for a Super Chianti Classico'. The concept is very simple,' said Francesco Ricasoli. We want Chianti Classico to be our top label, because we believe it is the wine which today best represents our terroir.' The aim is to move away from a Riserva or a Super-Tuscan IGT. The philosophy behind the Super Chianti Classico will be akin to a Bordeaux First Growth, with particular emphasis on the producer and the terroir. It will still reflect the Chianti Classico appellation regulations within the DOC(G) system. The message put out by the estates, which they hope will be taken up by other top Chianti Classico producers, coincides with the release of 2002 vintages of Castello di Ama, Castello di Brolio, Castello di Fonterutoli, Don Tommaso (Fattoria Le Corti), Giorgio Primo (La Massa) and Grosso Sanese (Podere Il Palazzino), under the Chianti Classico DOCG. After 20 years of rigorous vineyard selection and specific Sangiovese clonal selection, we feel our Chianti Classico is the highest expression of our terroir and its typicity,' said Marco Pallanti, of Castello di Ama.
