2007 IWSC winners announced at Vinexpo

Published:  23 July, 2008

Organisers of the 2007 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) have staggered the results to fit in with Southern hemisphere-based producers' production cycles.

This allowed them to take into account 2007 vintages.

French producers took over 100 Silver best in class awards, together with eight Golds.

There were four gold and seventy-three Best in Class awards for Italian producers this year.

Five Greek wine producers were short listed for the Kir-Yiannis Winery Trophy, and 22 entrants took Silver, best in class awards.

Port producers secured 13 Gold category wins.

Winners of the yearly producer awards are to be announced on November 6th at the competition's annual, London-based banqueting event.

Competition director Frances Horder praised the high standards of the winning entrants, and said judging them had been difficult.

Launched in 1969 and claimed to be the longest running award of its kind, the IWSC operates as a full time, permanently staffed business operation.
