Multinational varietals

I was interested to learn about the potential for intra-European varietal wines in the not-so-distant future, given the content of draft proposals for EU wine reform.
Great coffee blenders often claim it is impossible to produce great coffee from only one origin!
It poses many questions for those of us on the branding and marketing side of the business. Where are the retailers going to stock the multi-country varietals? Will big brands or niche brands be the first to take the plunge?
Personally, I think we should go one step further - why not Primitivo/Touriga Nacional or Tempranillo/Dornfelder?
