Maverick Drinks has signed a deal as the exclusive UK distributor for Empirical Spirits – the spirits brand headed up by ex-Noma chef Lars Williams.
As part of the deal, Maverick has taken on the on-trade distribution of the brand, which was founded by Williams and Mark Emil Hermansen, both alumni of Danish five time world’s best restaurant Noma.
Launched with a focus on “gastronomic experience over intoxication”, each spirit is formed from a Koji base, with botanicals chosen to reflect a “certain taste, feeling or experience” - from sweet and aromatic profiles of Kombucha tea to savoury Habanero peppers.
The spirits provided “just the right balance of madness and genius”, said Maverick Drinks founder Michael Vachon, adding Empirical had “thrown out the rulebook and are committed to creating the most interesting flavours on the planet”.
Available now, the Empirical Spirits portfolio comprises two 40% ABV options; Helena – a clear expression of the barley koji spirit and Charlene McGee - a koji spirit smoked with juniper and aged in Oloroso sherry casks, alongside a 35% ABV Fallen Pony Blend described as a more aromatic spirit from both quince tea and quince tea kombucha and Fuck Trump and his Stupid Fucking Wall - a 27% ABV spirit rectified with a distilled habanero vinegar.
Ian Moore, chief operating officer, Empirical, said: “Maverick is challenging the whole pay-to-play, retro game and really just asking why? I think that’s great and that’s why we’ve chosen them as our first ever distributor.”
Founded in 2013, Maverick Drinks was launched with the aim of bringing drinks and craft spirits with provenance, authenticity, and craftsmanship to UK consumers.
