Hot of the vinous starting blocks

Published:  07 December, 2010

Hot off the vinous starting blocks is the Domaine Blomac wine label which is being launched in the UK by Roger Harris Wines.

Paul Sapin and winemaker Olivier Mandeville acquired the Château de Blomac vineyard in Minervois just two years ago and brought their first range of wines to market this year. A heady start, the Château de Blomac Minervois 2008 (rrp £7.99) has already scooped a gold at the Mundus Vini. Made from 45-year-old vines of 50% Syrah, 30% Carignan with an additional 20% Grenache, makes for a soft, brambly, approachable, good value, medium-bodied wine, with lively tannins, a firm grip and a lingering finish. There are also six other medal winners under the new Domaine Blomac label - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and Syrah rosé (rrp £6.49-£6.99).
