Bargain Booze - the 500-strong franchised off-licence chain operated by Conviviality Retail - is investing in an app which will offer customer discounts.

The As if it wasn't cheap enough app  - the company's biggest investment in digital marketing to date - will offer customers of participating stores extra discounts and promotions.

These will include deals like £4.50 off the in-store price of Bells Whisky, and £1 off a bottle of Echo Falls wine. Customers will also be able to enter competitions to win prizes via the app. The group maintains the mobile technology will help drive traffic for its franchisees and thus boost sales.

Aside from generating increased business, Bargain Booze will benefit through the app saving details of transactions through the company's tills which can be used later for personalised marketing.

Adam Burnett, marketing director for Bargain Booze said: "We're targeting a new breed of digitally-savvy shoppers with a range of Smartphone-based and online services to drive footfall and give them compelling incentives to purchase from our franchisee's stores rather than competitor outlets.

"The app will certainly live up to its name with exclusive deals such as £4.50 off the store price of Bells Whisky 70cl, £5 off the store price of Carling 24pk and a £1 off bottles of Echo Falls. There will also be a variety of discounts and giveaways across a selection of soft drinks and snacks - we are making low prices even lower."

The retailer also says the app will offer suppliers a new avenue to promote and sell their products.

At the same time Bargain Booze is also developing a new Click and Collect service, which will allow shoppers to select and buy products online for in-store collection.

Burnett said: "Click and Collect is experiencing rapid growth across the market so we're leading the way in our sector by developing this service for our franchisees, allowing customers to browse and purchase on their own terms and collect at a time that suits them. We're aiming for click to sip in less than two hours."

The Bargain Booze fascia was launched in 1988 - Conviviality operates  419 Bargain Booze and Bargain Booze Plus branded stores, plus a further 114 Bargain Booze Select Convenience stores.

The new app loyalty programme has been built by Mobilize, who also work brands including Matalan, Britvic, Danone, Diageo, Heineken, Heinz, and McCain.
