Oddbins entreprenuer Nick Baile has died

Published:  10 October, 2013

Nick Baile, who was regarded as being one of the key figures in making Oddbins a national success in its heyday during the 1970s and 1980s, has died.

Baile along with Dennis Ing bought Oddbins in 1973 and together helped build up the business through its halcyon days of trading through the seventies and early eighties where it ran an estate of over 200 shops around the country. The business was then sold to Canadian drinks group Seagrams in 1984.

The Baile family connection with Oddbins was then carried on by his son, Simon, who was part of the team that acquired the business from Groupe Castel in 2008, before it fell in to administration in April 2011.

Nick Baile had been enjoying his retirement living in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
