UK visitors to this week's Vinexpo in Bordeaux were up close to 10% on 2011 as the exhibition closed with an expected near 50,000 visitors through its doors.
Official figures will be released early next week but organisers said the UK, Russia, Norway and Canada all saw a near 10% increase in visitors with particularly strong interest from Asia.
Japanese figures were up 18% on 2011, with up to 3,300 visitors from China and strong delegations from Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand.
Chinese wine companies were also present for the first time on two dedicated country pavilions highlighting wines from key regions such as Sichuan. Mexico, Japan and Wines of Turkey all had stands for the first time at this year's show.
Robert Beynat, chief executive officer of Vinexpo, said: "The number and quality of meetings and the positive atmosphere in the three exhibition halls sends an encouraging messaged to the whole wine and spirits industry."
The exhibition had 2,400 exhibitors from 44 countries with an estimated 48,800 visitors from 148 countries.
