Jelly Bean job gives Bibendum Wine Relief

Published:  23 July, 2008

Wine wisdom and wits

Next Thursday evening, 9 November, Bibendum will stage the revenge match of its Wine Options event at London's Delfina Gallery. Last year teams from all over the UK trade vied for honour, prestige and jelly beans in a hard-fought match of wine wisdom, wits and the most outrageous cheating, mostly by the Harpers squad (editor's note: allegedly). This year's event will also profile the launch of Wine Relief, the vinous arm of Comic Relief, highlighting the activities planned trade-wide for the next Red Nose fund raising extravaganza in March 2001. The quiz will follow the well-known Aussie format with some outlandish wines on tasting and a rookie jelly bean round bound to test the well-honed palates so abundant in the trade. Harpers' editor Tim Atkin will be the master of ceremonies and will direct proceedings alongside Mephistophelean side-kick, Willie Lebus, from a specially erected podium. With teams jamming Bibendum's switchboard to secure places in the lion's den, the evening is certainly set to provide some excitement and most definitely relief. Teams are being advised to study feverishly from the very latest WSET textbook to stand any chance whatsoever of beating the Bibendum team to the fabulous booty.
