Communicator award shortlist

Published:  23 July, 2008

The six candidates for the International Wine & Spirit Competition's Communicator of the Year have been announced, and they include regular Harpers contributors Sarah Jane Evans MW and Jamie Goode.

The remaining candidates are: Chris Scott, who in 2006 launched a weekly podcase called The UK Wine Show; former Harpers editor Tim Atkin MW, who writes a weekly column in The Observer newspaper; sommelier Matt Skinner, who writes an annual wine guide, The Juice, and makes frequent appearances on TV food shows such as Saturday Kitchen; and Natalie Maclean, whose first book, Red, White and Drunk All Over, was featured in the Top 100 books of 2006 by Canada's national newspaper, The Globe and Mail.

The award, which is being sponsored for the 11th time by Vinitaly organiser Veronafiere, recognises the individual who has contributed the most to wine or spirit consumer communication in the past 12 months'. The winner will be announced at the fair's opening gala in Verona, on 28 March.

Previous winners include Hugh Johnson, Jancis Robinson MW, Oz Clarke and Joe Wadsack.
