Gonzalez Byass UK to distribute Domäne Wachau

Gonzalez Byass UK has become the distributor for premium Austrian producer Domäne Wachau, taking over from Alliance Wine.

The producer, which is already distributed by Gonzalez Byass in the US, will be distributed by Martin Skelton, managing director of Gonzalez Byass UK and the team from September 1.

Domäne Wachau is known for producing high quality Grüner Veltliner in Wachau, where it accounts for 30% of the region’s vineyard area.

Almost 440 hectares are cultivated on steep terraces on the banks of the Danube river - part of a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

Following an intense period of investment in the winery, winery director Roman Horvath MW said the refreshed focus on the UK market is part of a plan to take their portfolio to the “next level and reach even more consumers”.

Horvath has worked at Domäne Wachau for almost 15 years.

“During that time we have overseen a re-structuring of the winery and the introduction of a new vineyard quality programme,” he said.

“We are just about to finish the highest investment ever made at the winery, establishing a new state-of-the-art centralised reception and vinification facility which we will be inaugurating during the 2018 vintage. “Export has always been important for us and will be even more so in the future. I am delighted to be working with Gonzalez Byass…we are joining a portfolio of premium estates and know that the team at GBUK will also be great ambassadors for Domäne Wachau in the UK.”

Gonzalez Byass UK is also exclusive distributor in the UK for Champagne Deutz, Quinta do Noval, Wirra Wirra, Jackson Estate, Rathfinny, Disznoko, Domaine Jones, Bodegas Beronia, Veramonte, Vilarnau, Gonzalez Byass and others.
