Biddenden Vineyards gains SALSA certification

Published:  11 July, 2018

Kent winery Biddenden, also a producer of ciders and juices, has gained Safe and Local Supplier Approval (SALSA) certification.

The certification would help Biddenden give its customers assurance that its production standards were “the highest possible” and would open up new routes to market for all, said general manager Tom Barnes, adding it was the “next logical step” for the producer.

“We have invested over recent years in pressing and bottling equipment which has allowed us to increase our capacity and offer contract bottling to a wider range of local farms and businesses,” he said.

SALSA was developed specifically for buyers and smaller food producers who need to demonstrate they operate to standards that are recognised and accepted across the industry and exceed the minimum standards expected by enforcement authorities,

“With SALSA in place and the start of the 2018 harvest imminent, Biddenden will be moving into the pressing season well equipped to continue to offer drinks production of the highest standard,” said Barnes.

Owned and managed independently by the Barnes family, Biddenden is a 23 acre vineyard where 11 different grape varieties are grown.
