In case you missed some of the headlines this week on harpers.co.uk, we have put together a review of the top online news, Q&As, and opinion stories.


Top Stories:
 More devastating fire this week, this time in Galicia’s Rías Baixas and across Portugal and Spain where more than 40 have been killed. Meanwhile, the trade in the UK and around the worldwide have been reaching out to winemakers which suffered mass loses in California, as the area slowly comes to terms with the extent of the damage.

We also brought you reports from the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux tasting in London this week and looked at Spanish wine and cava giant Codorníu’s decision to move its holding company’s headquarters from Catalonia to Rioja over the "uncertainty" surrounding the political conflict between Spain and Catalonia.  


Changing drinking trends: 
The on and off-trades have seen an unprecedented change in recent years with the internet and the economy have a revolutionising effect on bars, pubs and shops.

This week we looked at the shifting drinking patterns around the UK, with reference to newly released trend-focused research.

We also delved into the millennial mindset, looking at how honesty, authenticity, quality and a two-way conversation could help to bring this all-import age-group into wine.


People and Opinion:
 We caught up with D&D London’s Michael Patterson about evolving drinks trends on the London restaurant scene and how they affect the buyers’ role.

We also looked at the pros and cons of being a specialist and invited merchants to discuss their approach to sourcing, selling and communicating their offer.
