Broadcaster, writer and consultant Joe Wadsack, is the International Wine & Spirit Competition's (IWSC) 2005 Communicator of the Year'.

Marchese Leonardo de' Frescobaldi made the announcement at the gala opening of Vinitaly, Verona, on 7 April, and said that there were six worthy candidates on the shortlist. The judges summed up their decision to award Wadsack the title by describing him as a one-off, who breaks all the rules; confident, articulate and infectious, whether you like his style or not, he is out there recruiting consumers on behalf of us all, which is the essence of this award.'

Wadsack said: Wine journalists, writers and people in the media rarely connect with markets other than their own. Therefore, this award is particularly satisfying for being an international one. When I see the list of winners before me, I feel honoured to be a part of this select group.'

The official presentation of the award, which is sponsored by Veronafiere, will take place at the International Wine & Spirit Competition Awards' banquet on 1 November at the London Guildhall.
