Booking deadline approaching for Emerging Regions Tasting

Published:  04 April, 2013

Wineries from lesser-known regions and their agents have been urged to move fast, as the deadline for booking a stand at the first Emerging Regions Tasting closes on April 10.

Wineries from lesser-known regions and their agents have been urged to move fast, as the deadline for booking a stand at the first Emerging Regions Tasting closes on April 10.

Wines from countries not fully established in the UK, as well as new emerging regions within established countries, will feature at the tasting being run by Harpers next month. The event takes place at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, on May 1.

Its objective is to let buyers from the on and off-trade discover new and exciting wines. It is also aimed at importers and distributors looking for new wines to represent as several exhibitors will be seeking distribution.

The event will feature seminars, including one led by Harpers on why buyers should take notice of emerging regions.

Exhibitors include Wines of Turkey, Wines of Lebanon, Wines of Malta, Novum, Pacta Connect, Bibendum and Liberty Wines.

"It is an exciting time for Turkish wine as we bring the old and the new worlds together," said Taner Ogutoglu, director of Wines of Turkey. "Thanks to significant investment in modern technology, Turkish wines are now reaching a level of quality many thought impossible in previous years. As well as showing indigenous varietals such as Emir, Narince and Kalecik Karasi, the tasting will showcase international varietals including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, among others."

"The UK market is a really important one for Lebanese wines and we have seen exports of Lebanese wine rise by 33% since 2011. While Lebanon is a long-established wine-producing country, the wines are still relatively new to much of the UK wine trade, so the Emerging Regions tasting is the ideal platform for us to raise awareness of our wines in an environment where buyers are looking for new and exciting wines," said Madeleine Waters from Wines from Lebanon.

Registration for visitors is now open at emergingregionstasting.com.
