Tesco overhauls wine team

Published:  09 August, 2012

Tesco has poached Bibendum's sales director Emma Biggs as part of a shake-up of its wine team.

It has appointed four new staff, including Biggs, who has been appointed to the new role of BWS category format manager and will join Tesco in September, where she will bring a new focus to customer planning. Biggs will lead the customer planning stream, which includes wine customer planner Sarah Archer and customer manager for beers and spirits, Ian Targett. Helen Johnston will move from buyer for fortified wines into the customer planning stream, which will double in size.

Lindsay Chadwick, formerly head of BWS at catering company Compass, is now the buying manager for fine wine.

Also joining Tesco's wine team is James Mills, who will join the group wine sourcing team as assistant buyer following an 18-month graduate trainee scheme within corporate purchasing.

Meanwhile Ben Kelly has been appointed wine sales manager for the online Wine by the Case business, with the aim of growing Tesco's 'Wine Adviser' service.  Ben joins following four years at Quintessentially Wine, where he managed private client sales. Kelly will report to Stuart Anderton who runs Wine by the Case.

Tesco BWS category director, Dan Jago, said: "With these additional resources in the beer, wine and spirits teams, Tesco is better equipped than ever before to deliver a world class offer."
