Wines of Germany is launching the UK's first Riesling Summit, aimed at the trade.
Th day-long event will take place in June, and is the first of a series of Riesling based activities organised by the generic body this summer.
The event will start with a panel discussion about Germany's place in the emerging lower-alcohol category and aims to highlight German Riesling as the natural choice for consumers who are looking for lighter wine styles but don't want to compromise on quality.
it will be followed by an International Riesling Review, featuring some of the world's top Rieslings from Germany and around the world.
Additional features of the summit include a showcase tasting for the Generation Riesling - a group of over 300 of Germany's up-and-coming young producers.
Master-classes from German wine experts and producers, aimed at helping both the on trade and off trade to maximise their sales of German wines, will also take place.
Wines of Germany's managing director in the UK, Nicky Forrest, says: "With responsible drinking high on the political agenda right now, German Riesling should be on the radar of every wine retailer as it ticks all the boxes of what today's consumers are looking for.
"With the Riesling Summit, we hope to engage with the trade and show the opportunities for German Riesling both in the on and off trade. With growing support for Riesling evident from the many fan groups popping up all over the world, we're looking to harness this support to get consumers to see German wines in a different light and give German Riesling a go."
The event will take place on June 27, in central London
