Nyetimber at LWW: Consumers open to wine like never before

Published:  26 May, 2016

This week is London Wine Week (LWW) when punters can sample some of the best wine that the capital has to offer.

The festival's hub is based at Devonshire Square where people can purchase wristbands and plan which bars and tastings they are going to visit.

Nyetimber - one of the headline sponsors of the event - have a base at the hub.

For Nyetimbers' Steffan Griffiths, it is imperative to grab customes' attention to make the most of their footfall.

He said: "We haven't had people looking for a boozer - but then the weekend will soon be upon us. But seriously, education is key. You have to catch people's attention and make it fun. The wine world is more open than it ever has been and people are definitely willing to talk about wine."

Nyetimber are offering flights of their wines for £5, while organisers DrinkUp.London are offering a similar tasting of aperitif Vermouth at their Vermouth Bar - also at the hub.

"We've had a complete mix which is great thing," Griffiths added. "Some people are really wired into the industry and they know what they're coming for. But some are just people who have wandered through the hub, asked what was going on and decided to buy a wristband.

"We're doing a similar thing here to what we do on our Nyetimber 1968 Routemaster. It's too small to fit into Devonshire Square, but It's going off on its travels to events all across the UK this summer. We invite people on board to discuss and try the wines in an informal setting. The Wine Car Boot and other initiatives like the LWW are doing great things for wine. The wine scene in London is very dynamic right now."

London Wine Fair is in its third year a runs for the week of 23-29 May 2016.

Wristbands cost £10 and allow access to event in bars across the city.
