Record numbers from around the world visited ProWein 2013

Published:  27 March, 2013

More international visitors than ever before visited the largest ever ProWein this week. The three-day fair hosted 4,783 exhibitors from 48 countries and more than 44,000 trade visitors, up from 40,667 last year.

Organisers said the proportion of international visitors to the show rose by 6% to account for 40%, with particularly strong increases in visitor numbers from the UK, Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Spain and Italy.

Retailers, wholesalers and those in specialist trades accounted for almost half of the visitors, followed by members of the restaurant and hotel trade. 70% of visitors held management positions.

"In combination with the large number of decision-makers coming to Düsseldorf this development confirms ProWein's leading position as an international meeting point and central orders platform for the world's wine and spirits sector," said Hans Werner Reinhard, deputy managing director at show organiser Messe Düsseldorf.

Over 300 events including lectures and food and wine matchings were held at the fair, while almost 400 exhibitors presented specialities from the spirits sector.

Some 96% of visitors polled on the final day said they had achieved their goals and were satisfied or very satisfied with their visit to ProWein.

Messe Düsseldorf said its first ProWine China show, which will be held in Shanghai from 13 to 15 November, has generated a lot of interest with the majority of exhibition space already sold. The 20th ProWein will be held 23 to 25 March 2014.

London International Wine Fair will be "solid event" say organisers

Published:  12 March, 2013

The London International Wine Fair organisers have said they are positive that "2013 will be a solid event", despite some high profile dropouts. LIWF anticipates the fair at London's ExCeL centre will have over 500 exhibitors and 10,000 trade visitors.

TextThe London International Wine Fair organisers have said they are positive that "2013 will be a solid event", despite some high profile dropouts. LIWF anticipates the fair at London's ExCeL centre will have over 500 exhibitors and 10,000 trade visitors.

A large number of UK agents have committed to the fair, which runs from May 20 to 22. They includepositive that 2013 will be a solid event: 10 International, Awin Barratt Siegel Wine Agencies, Argento, Bancroft, CyT UK, Copestick Murray, DGB, Distell, Gonzalez Byass, Hatch Mansfield, J E Fells, Lanchester, Les Grands Chais de France, Myliko, Off Piste, Seckford's and Treasury Wine Estates.

Last week Liberty Wines joined Enotria and Bibendum in confirming that they would not be exhibiting at the fair this year.

"Whilst we are undeniably disappointed that some agents won't be taking part this year, we still have a broad spectrum of exhibitors signed up, including a number of the UK's best agents and importers. In addition, there will be many hundreds of smaller producers coming - many seeking UK representation for the first time - and who collectively reflect what the show has always been about, that sense of discovery," said show director Ross Carter.

"Come May, we will see over 10,000 buyers and key influencers descend on London's ExCeL, many of them from the independent and on-trade sectors that exhibitors are increasingly keen to court. We are working hard to ensure their attendance through a combination of providing strong content whilst assisting with travel bursaries, Oyster card incentives and voucher giveaways."

Jeremy Rockett, Gonzalez Byass UK marketing director said the show is what you make of it. "We pack the diary with appointments, organise exciting events on our stand, attend seminars and talks, and we keep an eye out for those opportunities that always seem to pop up from being at the show. With the new format, we're looking forward to welcoming more on trade visitors as well as our usual customers and friends," he said.
