TV's favourite wine critic, Oz Clarke, has released a new book which sets out what it is all about in the title: The History of Wine in 100 Bottles.
Clarke has picked out the key defining moments in the history of wine and celebrated them by choosing a bottle that depicts that precise time.
He takes the reader from clay urns in Georgia in 6000BC right through to the modern day and even includes the fake bottles that have resulted in multi-million dollar scams on the industry.
Clarke's journey weaves through the history of viticulture from the taverns of Pompeii, the oldest bottle of wine that's ever been drunk, the Englishman who claims to have invented Champagne and he visits the highest and coldest vineyards in the world.
The History of Wine in 100 Bottles is a Michael Palin-style look back on history with Clarke as your chatty, friendly and super informed tour guide.
It is all about, said Clarke, telling the stories people need to know about the history of "bottled poetry".
The History of Wine in 100 Bottles is published by Pavilion Books.
