Edinburgh: new Whiski Bar concept

Edinburgh retailer Whiski Bar is opening new premises which will incorporate a whisky shop, tasting room and bar.

The firm opened its original bar on the Royal Mile three years ago and now plans a "new concept in whisky retailing".

It has bought the freeholds of a former bar, gift shop and bank for an undisclosed sum and plans to convert them into three connected trading areas.

Anne Still, who owns the store along with her husband Gary, said there was "no limit on how many whiskies they would stock".

She said they took the decision after bar customers kept asking where they could buy the whiskies, prompting them to set up an online store, thewhiskystill.com last month, and begin looking for premises.

"Currently we have just under 300 whiskies we are selling through our online store ? and we haven't put any blends online yet. Space has been at a premium, so now we'll have room to expand," she said.
