Sud de France announces sommelier competition finals

Published:  30 July, 2010

The Sud de France Sommelier Competition will be holding its finals in September.

Forty-five entrants - including Arnaud Gouber (Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons) and Rémi Cousin (The Fat Duck) - will compete for the title that aims to promote knowledge and understanding of Languedoc-Roussillon's extensive wine offer.

Results of the competition, which is in its second year, will be announced on September 13, after the finals at the Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon, in central London.

The judging panel will be chaired by Richard Bampfield MW and includes the 2009 winner Romain Henry, Frédéric Grappe of Dynamic Vines, Tamlyn Currin of www.jancisrobinson.com, and Sud de France ambassador-chef Bjorn Van der Horst.

The Sud de France Sommelier Competition is part of the Sud de France Festival.

There will be four Sud de France Sommelier Competitions held this year in London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City.

Yannick Benjamin of Le Dû's Wines won the New York title on July 19.
