A group of independent merchants are currently travelling around Spain visiting some of the wineries of producer, Gonzalez Byass. Here Ellie Morgan reports back on what they have seen so far:

The modern winery of Vilarnau near Sant Sadurni d'Anoia is a shining example of what new things are happening in the Catalan wine scene. After a tasty open air lunch, washed down by some very palatable Vilarnau Rosado Cava we moved into a tutored tasting.

A range of Cavas, then some still wines including the rare but interesting Xarel-lo.

Finally there was time to sample some of the stylish reds made in Castilla and the Moncloa made near Jerez from the Gonzalez Byass portfolio. For those of us bought up with the advert 'GOnzalez Byass it's an exceedingly fine sherry' featuring Orson Welles, it was a fascinating insight into what Gonzalez Byass is doing today in different areas of Spain.

!Muchos gracias por la visita!
