VILLA MARIA TO STELVIN

Published:  23 July, 2008

Villa Maria, New Zealand's second largest winemaker, is moving to Stelvin screwcaps for its entire range - effective from the 2002 vintage. We will no longer play Russian roulette with the future quality of our wines,' said George Fistonich, managing director and founder of Villa Maria. To produce wines of real quality takes a huge amount of effort and investment; but to see the wines losing their character and quality solely because of problems with the cork closure is hard to bear.' No cork manufacturer can guarantee that their corks will always provide a perfect seal for our wines,' he added. This means that we cannot ensure that our wines reach the consumer in the condition intended by Mother Nature and our winemakers.' * Villa Maria has appointed Corey Ryan as senior winemaker, based in Auckland.
