FDF to cut packaging waste
The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has launched a major environmental plan aimed at cutting CO2 emissions, food and packaging waste and water use.
Cut CO2 emissions by 20% by 2010 compared with 1990, and aim for a 30% reduction by 2020
No food and packaging waste to be sent to landfill from 2015
Help cut the level of packaging reaching households by 2010, while providing more advice to consumers on how best to recycle
Achieve significant reductions in water use and contribute to an industry-wide target to reduce water use by 20% by 2020
Embed environmental standards in transport practices, including contracts with hauliers, to achieve fewer and friendlier food transport miles
Contribute to an absolute target for the food chain to reduce its environmental and social impacts by 20% by 2012 compared with 2002
