Smoking ban fails to damage nightclub demand

Published:  23 July, 2008

Nightclub operator Luminar believes the smoking ban has had a marginal impact' on its business.

Announcing half yearly trading figures to August, the company cautioned that it was still too early to judge the ban's long-term impact, but said that so far it hadn't kept clubbers at home.

The company operates over 100 venues, and has introduced legal smoking areas, such as terraces, where feasible.

Smoking is currently completely banned at 11 of its sites where suitable accommodation could not be found.

Total sales turnover from its dancing venues rose by 1.8%
