Bolla Winery sale confirmed

Published:  23 July, 2008

Brown-Forman has confirmed that it has sold the production facility for its popular Italian brand Bolla to Gruppo Italiano Vino (GIV) for an undisclosed sum.

Under the terms of the deal (first reported in Harpers on 11 August) Brown-Forman will keep the trademark of the Bolla brand and will retain worldwide marketing and distribution rights.

GIV will produce the wines for the Bolla brand and will act as the brand's distribution company in Italy. Paul Varga, chief executive for the US-based wine and spirits company, commented: The new arrangement will allow Brown-Forman to improve efficiency and gain flexibility in the sourcing of high-quality wines for Bolla.'

GIV - which already owns 15 wineries across Italy - also produces the wines for Brown-Forman's Fontana Candida

brand. Brown Forman has sold Bolla Wines since 1968.
