Wine Importers MD Billy Bell Birse-Stewart steps down

Published:  19 February, 2019

Billy Bell Birse-Stewart has stepped down as managing director of Wine Importers.

The Scottish business said Birse-Stewart had retired earlier this month after 25 years working for the company.

In his time at Wine Importers, Birse-Stewart had personally developed the “best portfolio of quality wines in Scotland through his many global contacts”, said the independent regional wholesaler.

“We thank him sincerely for his lengthy contribution to the business and wish him well in the future.”

During his long and distinguished career, Billy has championed the need for wine to match food style and this ethos led him to create the bi-annual Epicurean Tasting event in Scotland.

Recognition of Birse-Stewart’s standing within the wine trade has been acknowledged through the many offices he has held, including President of the Institute of Wine and Spirits Scotland, President of the Forty Nine Club (Trade Club of Scotland) and he is the current Visitor (Deacon) of the Incorporation of Maltmen.

Before joining Wine Importers in 1993, Billy previously worked with Waverly Vintners and H Sichel of London.
