A G8 shame

Published:  18 January, 2007

What a missed opportunity for the UK.

The recent G8 dinner was the ideal time to serve some of our leading wines - as the host nation it would even be expected, but there was not a single English or Welsh vineyard wine in sight.

With so many world leaders present, and the associated media attention, the Prime Minister could have shown one of the many stunning wines made on our national soil, notably one of our sparkling wines.

Perhaps the wine advisors to Number 10, who are known to be readers of Harpers, might care to make a few such recommendations in future. Or did Mr Blair overrule them?
