Bibendum grows Italian premium portfolio with Apulian addition

Published:  25 July, 2017

Bibendum has added a selection of wines from artisan Italian producer, Masseria Li Veli, to its portfolio of premium wines.

From September 1, nine of the Puglia-based estate’s wines will be distributed via Conviviality subsidiaries Bibendum Wines and Walker & Wodehouse.

Those involved are aiming to build on the brand’s presence in the UK following the opening of the Li Veli Winery & Bistro in the Covent Garden area in 2014.

Six reds and two white wines, which are cultivated with indigenous grapes such as Susumaniello and Verdeca, will be added to the Bibendum portfolio.

The range includes the Askos Susumaniello and Askos Verdeca from Li Veli’s Askos project, made from rare Apulian grape varieties; and also Aleatico Passito – a concentrated sweet wine made with the aromatic Aleatico grape.

“Bibendum has an absolute commitment to working with artisanal producers and championing indigenous varieties to bring our customers the very best of what Italy has to offer,” Matthew Smith, Bibendum wine buyer for Italy, said.

“Li Veli’s complete focus on quality fits with this goal perfectly. They bring a wonderful array of fascinating wines to our portfolio which really showcase the quality and value Puglia can produce.”

Walker & Wodehouse supplies independent wine merchants and regional wholesalers mainly with wine but also spirits too.

Bibendum supplies exclusively to the on-trade with a range of 4,500 wines, premium spirits, craft beers, ciders and sake.
