UK TEAM TRIUMPHS AT JEREZ COOK-OFF

Published:  23 July, 2008

UK chef and sommelier duo Mark Jankel and Patrice Guillon, from the Notting Hill Brasserie, came first in the inaugural International Copa Jerez on 13 January, where the Sherry makers of Jerez brought together a group of the world's finest chefs and sommeliers for a cook-off and pairing contest. Head judges were Juan Maria Arzak (three-Michelin-holder for the past 15 years) and El Bulli's Juli Soller. The Notting Hill Brasserie's winning menu featured sauted hand-caught scallops in a light shellfish broth with a Barbadillo La Gitana Manzanilla; roast loin of venison with globe artichoke pure and baby vegetables with an Oloroso Seco from Fernando de Castilla; and, finally, a fig poached in red wine with a coffee crme brle and Pedro Ximenez, again from Fernando de Castilla.
