Published:  23 July, 2008

Breadth and strength in UK portfolio

Allied Domecq has bought the Mumm and Perrier-Jout Champagne brands, annual sales of which total more than 100,000 cases. Defending the decision not to bid for the Seagram wine and spirit business, Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine UK, managing director, Chris Heath, said: "The move not to bid but to select and secure brands which fulfil our commercial objectives has clearly been a winning strategy for the group. This news demonstrates the group's commitment to creating value for our shareholders and moves us another step closer to our objective of becoming the best spirits and wine company in the world. "With the acquisition of the Mumm and Perrier-Jout Champagne brands, we now have one of the broadest and strongest portfolios in the UK, offering our customers major brands in almost every spirits category from whisky to Cognac, fortified wines and now Champagne," said Heath.
