MONDAVI RETIRES

Robert Mondavi, founder of the eponymously named winery and unofficial father of the Californian wine industry', has stepped down from the board of the family business. He will retain the title of Chairman Emeritus'. His retirement, at the age of 90, marks the end of an era. In his time in the business, Mondavi has seen the Napa Valley grow from a marginal agricultural area to one of the world's most famous - and expensive - wine regions. I've had the good fortune of having seen my dreams come true,' he said. Now I look forward to spending more time mentoring my grandchildren.' R Michael Mondavi, Robert's eldest child and chairman of the company, said: My father's energy, enthusiasm and vision will continue to inspire all of us on the board and in the company.'
