Australian producer, Grant Burge is to refurbish his Krondorf Winery in a bid to cement the Burge brand as an icon of the Barossa landscape.
The major renovation will see the Grant Burge Cellar Door become a two-story wine destination complete with indoor and outdoor function areas, private tasting rooms and a fully equipped café.
The family company will also renovate the 160 year old original Falkenberg winery that sits below the cellar door.
Burge and his business partner Ian Wilson originally purchased the Krondorf winery from Dalgetys in 1978, but the property was taken over by Mildara in 1986.
He re-purchased it in 1999 as the company's main white winemaking facility, with a long term strategy to renovate and make the most of the views and the location.
Burge says: "After 23 years at our cellar door at Jacob's Creek on Barossa Valley Way, we have decided to return to the place where my wine dream began on Krondorf Road.
"It's always been a bit of a dream but it's now a reality.
"Our children, Toby, Amelia and Trent, are all involved in the business, and Helen and I are both really excited to be able to build something that will hopefully be in our family for generations to come.
"After six generations you tend to have a long view of history and this latest downturn in the wine industry is just another bump in the road."
