Ex chief constable calls for minimum pricing in Brighton

The former assistant chief constable with Sussex Police has called for a ban on cheap alcohol in Brighton to call a halt to excessive drinking.
Jeremy Paine, told BBC Sussex that binge drinking had become a "very serious problem" in the city and proposed setting a minimum price per unit of alcohol.
Brighton and Hove City Council said it was not considering the idea of minimum pricing but was looking into ways to tackle the problem.
It has set up a panel of experts, which are due to meet in January.
The proposal comes on the back of Councils across Merseyside announcing a minimum pricing consultation exercise which will run until February 18, next year.
