Pernod Ricard announces new chairman

Pernod Ricard has named its first ever chief executive to have come from outside the Ricard family.

Pernod Ricard has named its first ever chief executive to have come from outside the Ricard family.

Pierre Pringuet, currently Pernod Ricard's deputy CEO, has replaced Patrick Ricard, who led the group for more than 30 years and who will maintain his position as chairman.

Ricard said last year that it would separate the posts of chairman and CEO.

It has been a busy year for Pernod Ricard, who recently acquired Swedish vodka maker Absolut.

Thanks to sales boosts in China, Russia and India it says it now hopes to overtake Diageo to become the world's largest wine and spirits group.

The company recently reported a Q1 sales jump of 13%, on the back of the strong performance of brands such as Perrier-Jouët and Jameson.

Pernod Ricard had until now always had a family member at its helm, since being founded 76 years ago.
